Nothing is more overwhelming than the feeling of “Where do I begin” when trying to accomplish something. It doesn’t matter if it’s housework or homework, it’s
more productive to focus on one task at a time.
Not to make it sound overly simple, but it is. As the Chinese “proverb says.
A journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step.“-Laozi
And that step was making their beds. LOL! Seriously though, all we need is a starting point, and the rest will take care of itself.
When making our bed is the starting point of our day, it builds structure into our day and, eventually, our life.
Making our bed sets us up for success from the moment we wake up in the morning until we fall into bed at night.
Here are the five reasons I make my bed every day without fail and why you should too.
1st) Call me crazy, but there is something meditative about making my bed and something calming about a made bed.
I’m always looking for ways to build meditation and relaxation into my day. This small habit sets the stage for more productive habits all day.
2nd) I’m a morning person who rolls out of bed at 4:00 am, six days a week, but I realize this isn’t everyone.
3rd) Making your bed creates a sense of order that spills over into the rest of your bedroom, which can then spill over into the rest of your home.
4th) I also make my bed every day because it is attached to other habits I have built or am currently building. For example, when I make
my bed even on days that I’m tired or just don’t want to, I am programing my brain that I can push through and do those things I don’t “feel” like doing. Making my bed has been a gateway habit that helped me build more life-affirming habits into my daily routine. Remember, productivity is not an accident! If you want to accomplish anything, it all starts with intentional action.
5th): Finally, I make my bed daily Because, as a reformed procrastinator, it reminds my brain that it’s time to start my day. Because my day begins early, it has to end early, and that is only a problem if I waste time during my day. I don’t, and it’s partly because of the structure that making my bed brings to my day.
Being in bed early is only a problem if I waste time during my day, which I don’t. the closing, making my bed each day has helped me build a higher level of structure, discipline, and focus that I didn’t have before. It can do the same for you.
Cheers,
Casey
